Statement of Information Alerts
Two things:
First, you may get an official-looking notice from an organization calling itself the “Business Filings Division,” claiming that you haven’t filed your Statement of Information, and saying that it will do so for you for an odd number like $239 or $257. DO NOT FALL FOR IT. While it looks professional, it has nothing to do with the California Secretary of State.
Second: to save money, the Secretary of State is no longer sending out blank Statement of Information forms to fill out — it is only sending out a postcard. You’ll have to find the form online and do it yourself. While it is easy to do (go here for most corporations; some corporations and all limited liability companies (LLCs) need to go here and print out the document and send it to the Secretary of State), many corporations just fill out the form when it arrives. That is no longer an option. Since the penalty is $250, save yourself some money and do the form on time.
